Global Commodities Conference 2019

The annual international conference on commodities and commodity trading, organised by Lugano Commodity Trading Association (LCTA) and Conoscere Eurasia Association, will be held in Lugano on November 13 and 14.
With a new format, the Global Commodities Conference will gather world-renowned special guests, international trade experts, commodity traders, banking institutions and service providers. It is a unique platform in the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland for networking and deepening of issues related to this sector.
Global Commodities Conference 2019
The Global Commodities Conference, organised by Lugano Commodity Trading Association (LCTA), was successfully held in LAC Lugano on November 13 – 14, 2019. More than 300 people attended the two-day conference that brought together numerous experts and important players in the commodity trading and international trading sectors.

With a new format, the Global Commodities Conference has established itself as the pre-eminent gathering of world-renowned special guests, international trade experts, commodity traders, banking institutions and service providers.

DAY 1, NOVEMBER 13
Various hot topics were discussed at the conference, among them the opportunities and challenges of the Eurasian economic area, the impact of China’s One Belt, One Road (or New Silk Road) project on Europe and the rest of the world. A keynote speaker on the conference first day Mark Entin, Professor at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO University), Holder of the Chair of European Law, Copresident of the scientific seminar permanent part of the Baltic Federal University, Member of the Russian Council on Foreign and Defense Policy, Russia’s Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Luxembourg (2012-2016), has brilliantly presented his theses on the subject Competition vs Cooperation in Greater Eurasia.

DAY 2, NOVEMBER 14
The second conference day was mostly focused on the role of banks in financing commodity trading, followed by three parallel seminars on the main sectors marketed in the canton of Ticino: metals, energy and shipping. The highlight of the second day was the opening speech by John Bruton, former Prime Minister of Ireland (1994-1997) and EU Ambassador to the United States (2004-2009).
An intense and rich conference programme has brought guests from all over the world to Lugano also this year. The conference is the key event for the trading community, as well as financial sector, as it provides attendees with an excellent opportunity to network, exchange experts’ opinions and get business development expertise. Following the success of this year’s conference, LCTA is preparing to host the 2020 Global Commodities Conference in Lugano.
